Diligence Investments - Monday, August 15, 2011

Visitor numbers to Barbados rise, even in the tough tourism market.Barbados resort Despite the economic climate, visitor numbers to Barbados have not been affected.

In fact, they are on the up according to the latest statistics released from the country's Minister of Tourism. The announcement came from Andrew Cox, Secretary to the Minister of tourism, Richard Sealy. Statistics show that 250,385 stay over tourists were recorded in the period of Jan 1st - May 30th,13,724 up from last years figures, representing a 5.8% increase. Cruise ship passenger arrivals also saw an increase of 3.4% from the same period.

Mr Cox Quoted: “I am happy to report that even in the face of the economic crisis impacting countries across the globe, Barbados has been able to create innovative ways to retain its niche in existing tourist source markets, and also expand into new markets. This has enabled us to compete effectively against the growing number of tourist destinations that have become available to the international traveller.”
